Spotlight on Debut Films at IFFLA 2016

We're proud to introduce new filmmaking voices to Los Angeles audiences. A number of films in this year's lineup mark feature directorial debuts.

Bhaskar Hazarika's KOTHANODI is a collection of four fables brought to wondrously unsettling life. Neeraj Ghaywan's MASAAN, which scored two awards at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, weaves together two powerful stories set along the Ganges. Ruchika Oberoi's genre-bending ISLAND CITY effortlessly shifts from absurdist comedy to escapist fantasy to realist drama (with a tinge of science fiction). Anucharan Murugaiyan's KIRUMI (VIRUS) is a riveting, white-knuckle thriller centered on a police informant. Lena Khan's THE TIGER HUNTER, a passholders only screening, is a wholly original take on the immigrant experience starring Danny Pudi.

Bimal Roy Tribute at IFFLA 2016
2016 is the 50th anniversary of the death of one of Indian cinema's finest directors, Bimal Roy. To mark the occasion, IFFLA is proud to present a restored version of one of Roy's most beloved classics, SUJATA, which first premiered at the 1960 Cannes Film Festival. The film screens at 12:30pm on Sunday, April 10.
