Out & About - March 2018

Spotlight: Wun Tayk Timmy

I met Hollywood rapper WunTayk Timmy while he was shooting a video for his new album. "I love Hollywood, the scenery and overall atmosphere brings out something so creative in me."

"Rest When I'm Rich" project is out this week. The album is a blend of the lyrical rap that older generational hip hop heads love, and the melodic rap the newer generation loves. Thought provoking, innovative and appealing sonically."

Wun listens to rap and R&B. "While I like what's out there currently, I find myself drawn to older classics more than anything, like old Wayne, Jay Z, 50 Cent. I love the sound of live instrumentation, so I'd definitely like to try putting some of it in my music. I feel it could give it a bigger, more classic sound."

Being a single father has motivated the rapper's music.

"My daughters, Te'Maya & Tymothi, mean the world to me and luckily, they have mothers who understand and believe in what I'm trying to do, and are willing to work with me and my schedule. I love them for that. My daughters love that I make music too."

About the album, Wun said: "I feel I have something special in my rhymes and music that you don't get from everywhere. It isn't as present in hip hop as I would like it to be, so I make music that may fill that void for somebody who feels the same as I do."

He added: "I enjoy rapping about life. Things I've done, seen, or experienced in some way. What matters most is that although I may not be telling stories you've never heard, or situations you've never come across, the way I paint the picture or convey my message is unique. I'm big on metaphors and creativity."

Beauty Week

In celebration of Beauty Week 2018, Whole Foods Market is offering special discounts on its wide selection of natural beauty. From March 21 to 28, all makeup, facial care, hair care, nail polish and makeup brushes will be 25 percent off. In addition, on Friday, March 23, stores will offer limited edition beauty bags for $20 apiece, while supplies last.

Valued at $100, the custom bag contains Whole Foods Market's beauty favorites from Alba, Dr. Hauschka, evanhealy, Mineral Fusion, Trilogy, Weleda and W3LL People. The products come inside an organic cotton bag from Piece & Co. New to the sale and bag this year are the hair care products found in Whole Body.

Whole Foods Market bans more than 75 ingredients found in conventional body cate products, including phthalates, microbeads, triclosan, BHT, BHA and aluminum chlorohydrate. The supermarket created its own standards for organic labeling on personal care products, as there are no mandatory government standards for "organic" claims in the body care industry.

Oscars

Actress Nikki Leigh
At Celebrity Connected's Oscars gifting suite, held at the Taglyan Complex, I spoke with actress Nikki Leigh who has a new movie for Lifetime, called "Midwife's Deception," which airs March 18th 8pm.

In addition, you can check Nikki out on the BlackPills app. "My TV series on the app is called 'A Girl Is A Gun.' I play the role of Santa Fe, and Denise Richards is in it too."

Each episode is only 10 minutes each. "This series is all about women empowerment; it's a Grind House style feminist series where we follow three powerful women in the fight against misogyny."

Because she is so active, Nikki needs her beauty sleep, which is why she loved the HoneyDew Sleep pillow. "It was so comfortable!" She quipped. "The suite had a great assortment of gifts and I really appreciated all the bakery items from CurlyTop Baker and the cute head wrap from Luxe Littles."

I headed over to Wow Creations suite, which featured ViaVai designer Diana Patricia Moya's lovely, figure flattering knitwear dresses were a huge hit with the celebs in attendance. Moya is from Columbia and is a one woman show, wearing many hats at her company.

"I was thrilled to be at the suite and was filled with energy all day, as I felt true excitement about my brand from everyone that came by to check the dresses out. My corner was buzzing with so much beauty and talent, which was very inspiring and motivating!

Other highlights there including haircare products from Schwarzkopf and a gift certificate from Mark Edward Skincare.

Early Holiday Gift Alert

I love Gorilla Goodies, the company who made the wildly popular Hipster Nativity. In addition to the modern nativity with a Starbucks-drinking Mary and Three Kings bearing Amazon Prime. During the holidays, they debuted a Santa-riding, fire-breathing dragon tree topper with a Game of Thrones touch, make-grandma-faint holiday cards; and "rapper" wrapping paper into the mix.
