HFF Review - IT'S YOUR FAULT - Madnani (formerly Lex) Theatre

Reviewed by Amalisha HuEck

It's Your Fault is a hilarious spoof about a Self-improvement Transformational Workshop and finding freedom through pointing fingers. With the audience participation life coaches Robin and Pete are promising change for everyone after their participation in this workshop and the promise is based on three things: It's Your Fault, Don't Trust Yourself, and Trauma Doesn't Matter. Through a series of questions, clever dialogues, dancing, singing, and demonstrations, the audience is led by the virtue of different activities and songs to get 'unstuck' from the biggest program of their life, and so-called 'create the reality of their dreams'.

The Book, Music & Lyrics for this new musical about self-help were written by Lindsay Gitter and Griffith Frank who also with passion play the main characters - Robin and Pete. Lindsay's journey as a songwriter began in 2019, and is the recipient of the 2021 ASCAP Foundation Jay Gorney Award for the original song, 'If I Don't Cry.' And Griffith is an award-winning singer and RIAA-certified multiplatinum songwriter whose work has garnered over a billion streams worldwide. The songs are fantastic, truly entertaining and so well sung. All the voices were strong and extremely creative, giving the manipulative suggestions more power.

Besides Lindsay and Griffith, the rest of the incredible cast(L-R): Erika Mugglin, Rose Hough, A.T. Branch, Griffith Frank, Emerson Boatwright, Lindsay Gitter, Photography by Ryan Story) includes Emerson Boatwright (Robert), Erika Mugglin (Ashley), AT Branch (Andy), and Rose Hough (Trust Fall Singer). Great job everyone!  The simple, but creative and fun choreography was done by Molly Brink, Accompanist was Dwight Rivera, and Keith Gerstner performed the chores of the Stage Manager. Larry Tollin is featured as the voice of the Publisher.

Under the superior direction of Emmy award-winning Screenwriter/Producer/Director Rodney Vaccaro, 'It's Your Fault' World Premiere has an effective opening at Hollywood Fringe Festival on June 11th. 2023 (Preview June 1st). The last performance at the Madnani Theatre, Main Space (6760 Lexington Ave. Los Angeles, 90038) is on Friday, June 23rd @ 7 PM.
