Open Fist Theatre Company presents a rare revival of José Rivera’s Obie-winning Marisol, a dreamlike blend of magical realism, Theatre of the Absurd, dark humor, and poetic storytelling. After her guardian angel abandons her to join a celestial war, Bronx resident Marisol Pérez is left to navigate a terrifying world that seems to be coming apart around her, forcing her to confront questions of survival, faith, humanity, and hope.

Directed by Amanda Weier and starring Jade Santana as Marisol, the production transforms Rivera’s apocalyptic vision into an intimate theatrical journey that feels both surreal and strikingly contemporary. Even as the world of the play descends into chaos, its humor and compassion remain central, creating a provocative story about holding onto humanity when everything familiar begins to disappear. The production runs through October 24, 2026.
