Shonen Knife is an influential Japanese all-female pop-punk band, formed in 1981, known for their fusion of 1960s girl-group melodies and Ramones-style punk. Fronted by Naoko Yamano, the trio gained international recognition for their cheerful, simplistic lyrics and energetic, DIY aesthetic. Their music significantly impacted the 1990s alternative scene, most notably when Kurt Cobain personally invited them to open for Nirvana on tour.
