Eydís Evensen is a rising Icelandic composer, pianist, and vocalist known for her evocative and emotionally resonant post-classical music. Born and raised in Blönduós, in the northern part of Iceland, her work is deeply inspired by the raw, dramatic forces of nature and her personal memories and feelings.
Evensen is a classically-trained musician who has successfully blended her background with contemporary and ambient sounds, drawing comparisons to artists like Ólafur Arnalds and Philip Glass. Her debut album, Bylur (the Icelandic word for “snowstorm”), was released in 2021 and charted on the UK Classical Artist Albums Chart. She followed this with her sophomore album, The Light, in 2023. Her music is characterized by sparse, melancholic, and elegant piano melodies often accompanied by strings, woodwind, and brass instruments.
