Jennifer Knapp is a highly respected American-Australian singer-songwriter recognized for her work in both contemporary Christian music (CCM) and folk rock. She initially rose to fame in the late 1990s as a major CCM artist with three successful albums, including the Gold-certified Kansas, before abruptly taking a seven-year hiatus in 2002. Her highly-anticipated return in 2010 was accompanied by her announcement that she is a lesbian, a pioneering move as the first major CCM artist to openly discuss her LGBTQ+ identity. She subsequently transitioned her career to the mainstream folk rock and Americana genres, releasing albums like Letting Go and Set Me Free, while simultaneously becoming a prominent advocate for LGBTQ+ inclusion within faith communities through her non-profit organization, Inside Out Faith, and her memoir, Facing the Music.
