Scars on Broadway
Scars on Broadway is an American alternative metal and experimental rock band that serves as the primary side project of Daron Malakian, the guitarist, composer, and second vocalist for the multi-platinum band System of a Down. Formed in 2006 (initially with SOAD drummer John Dolmayan), the band’s musical style deviates from System of a Down’s thrash extremes toward a more straightforward rock sound infused with elements of new wave keyboards, punk swagger, and melodic pop sensibilities, all while retaining Malakian’s signature complex lyrical themes and idiosyncratic sonic quirks. After an initial acclaimed self-titled debut album in 2008, the band went on hiatus and later reformed, with the project evolving to become more solely focused on Malakian’s direction, leading to the 2018 album Dictator and the upcoming 2024 album Addicted to the Violence, with the current core members typically including Malakian on lead vocals and guitar, Orbel Babayan on rhythm guitar, and Roman Lomtadze on drums.
