Manipulation

Manipulation brings together recent works by Los Angeles artists Delbar Azari, Richard Bruland, Courtney Colgan, and Lori Nielson, each approaching material and surface in a distinctly different way. Across painting and mixed media, the artists alter, layer, polish, scrape, reflect, and build their surfaces to create works that resist easy categorization while emphasizing technical precision and the physical qualities of the materials themselves.

The exhibition highlights how manipulation can function as both process and subject, from Azari’s interest in light, color, reflective materials, and spatial perception to the other artists’ varied approaches to texture and construction. Together, the works create a tactile, visually rich presentation centered on transformation and material experimentation. The exhibition remains on view through October 10, 2026.
