40 YEAR ANNIVERSARY  Part 1

La Luz de Jesus Gallery celebrates 40 years of groundbreaking exhibitions with a major anniversary presentation honoring the gallery’s long-standing role in Los Angeles’ lowbrow, pop-surrealist, outsider, and countercultural art scenes. Founded in 1986 by Billy Shire, the gallery helped create a platform for artists working outside traditional fine-art conventions and became an influential force in the development of a distinctly Los Angeles visual culture.

The anniversary celebration is divided into two exhibitions, with Part One running through November 1 and Part Two following in November. Together, the shows bring artists from across the gallery’s history back into conversation, creating a broad look at four decades of imaginative, unconventional, and often irreverent work.
