Hobo Johnson and the Lovemakers

December 13 @ 9:00 pm - 11:30 pm

Hobo Johnson and the Lovemakers is the musical collective fronted by American vocalist Frank Jorge Lopes Jr. (known professionally as Hobo Johnson), who gained massive viral recognition in 2018 following the success of their NPR Tiny Desk Contest entry for the song “Peach Scone.” Their highly polarizing and distinctive style is a chaotic, genre-fluid blend of spoken word, emo rap, folk, and alternative rock, characterized by Johnson’s raw, intensely emotional, and often neurotic vocal delivery—which shifts wildly between frantic rapping, shouting, and sincere singing—all supported by his talented backing band, The Lovemakers. The band’s music delves into deeply personal and often nihilistic themes, tackling subjects like loneliness, mental health, dysfunctional families, and the absurdities of modern life, with their albums, including The Rise of Hobo Johnson and The Fall of Hobo Johnson, establishing them as a unique and influential, if controversial, voice in contemporary music.
