Richy Mitch & The Coal Miners is an American modern folk-rock band that began as a high school passion project in Colorado Springs, now based in Seattle and consisting of longtime friends Mitch Cutts (vocalist/songwriter), Nic Haughn (production/guitar), and Jakob Ervin. Their sound successfully balances introspective folk songwriting with a raw, indie-rock energy, drawing comparisons to artists like Fleet Foxes and Gregory Alan Isakov. Initially a DIY effort, their self-titled 2017 debut and subsequent albums like Solstice (2018) and Subliming (2019) were often recorded remotely in their spare time while attending different colleges. Their career experienced a massive, unexpected surge when the one-minute-long opener to their debut album, “Evergreen,” went viral on TikTok, earning hundreds of millions of streams and propelling the band to mainstream success and extensive touring.
