Sam Quinones: Our Lady of the Angels: The Virgin of Guadalupe in Los Angeles
Journalist and author Sam Quinones presents Our Lady of the Angels, a photographic and cultural portrait of the Virgin of Guadalupe across Los Angeles. The project traces how her image has moved beyond churches and religious spaces into streets, storefronts, murals, and neighborhood walls, where she has become a powerful symbol of protection, identity, migration, and community.
Joined by Marc Weingarten, Quinones discusses the seventeen years of photographs behind the book and the way immigrant entrepreneurs and local artists have transformed ordinary urban surfaces into informal sanctuaries. The event offers an intimate look at one of Los Angeles’ most recognizable cultural symbols and the communities that continue to reshape its meaning.
