Strange Days of a Quiet Sun

February 21 @ 6:00 pm - March 28 @ 8:00 pm

Immerse yourself in a world where vibrant color meets intricate texture in Strange Days of a Quiet Sun, a captivating solo exhibition by Korean-born, Los Angeles–based artist Ken Gun Min. Known for his “maximalist” and lusciously chaotic landscapes, Min creates dreamlike environments that invite viewers into a space between reality and a wild daydream.

The vibe of the exhibition is one of sensory intensity and tactile wonder. Each work is a rich tapestry of materials, blending Western-style oil paints with Korean pearl pigments on raw canvas. The surfaces are further brought to life through labor-intensive, hand-applied embroidery, delicate beading, and the shimmer of natural gems and pearls. These botanical spaces function as both a refuge and a site of complex emotion, where beauty and desire coexist in an immersive, almost unstable atmosphere.

Min’s artistry is a sophisticated fusion of global influences, drawing on his personal journey through Seoul, San Francisco, Zurich, Berlin, and Los Angeles. His work serves as a powerful exploration of identity, masculinity, and cross-cultural narratives, reimagining familiar urban landscapes as queer utopias where personal memory and history intertwine. Join us at Nazarian / Curcio for an evocative encounter with the sublime, where every shimmering stitch tells a story of splendor and discovery.
