DAN LEVENSON SKZ Centimeter Studies Classroom
In SKZ Centimeter Studies Classroom, artist Dan Levenson expands the fictional world of the State Art Academy, Zürich, an imaginary twentieth-century Swiss art school that he has developed across paintings, furniture, performances, and fabricated archival materials. The exhibition presents paintings supposedly created by students responding to exercises based on the centimeter, alongside classroom furniture designed according to the same austere formal principles.
Concentric bands, carefully measured forms, aged surfaces, and strict pedagogical rules give the installation the atmosphere of a classroom unearthed from another era. Through this invented academy, Levenson explores questions about how creativity is taught, who gains access to artistic education, and how aesthetic systems and ideas circulate through culture. The exhibition remains on view through November 7, 2026.
