THE SCHOOL OF LOS ANGELES Herb Rills, Greg Gorman, Matthew Rolston
Fahey/Klein Gallery brings together Herb Ritts, Greg Gorman, and Matthew Rolston in The School of Los Angeles, an exhibition examining three photographers who helped redefine glamour and celebrity portraiture in Southern California from the late 1970s through the 1990s. Their images shaped magazines, album covers, advertising, music videos, and film, creating a visual language of fame, beauty, identity, and aspiration that continues to influence contemporary photography.
The exhibition highlights three very different approaches to portraiture: Ritts’ sculptural idealization, Gorman’s intimate psychological focus, and Rolston’s theatrical, highly constructed imagery. Together, their work captures a formative moment in Los Angeles visual culture and asks whether this shared period can be understood as a distinct artistic movement. The exhibition remains on view through November 28, 2026.
