THE MARY AND MARGO ART EXPERIENCE – The Broadwater BlackBox Theatre
Reviewed by Amalisha HuEck
Meet Mary & Margo; two professional performance artists who take their craft VERY seriously – perhaps a bit too seriously. They’ve created the ultimate showcase for a big-time Hollywood producer, Mr. Goodman, featuring hilariously awkward audience participation and their most ‘profound’ work.
The Mary and Margo Art Experience started as YouTube sketch videos. But after being invited to perform a Variety Show thrown by Matt Morilo in 2025, they collectively decided to bring a bigger show to the Fringe stage. Matt Morilo produced it through KADM Productions, and all performance pieces are written, directed, and performed by Katie Oliver and Kristen Hansen. The music, lyrics, and sound design of original songs, ‘Choose Love’ and ‘Amazon Song’ were also created by Katie Oliver, with additional lyrics by Kristen Hansen.
Mary and Margo are turning their performance into protest! Their unique brand of physical comedy creates those ‘perfectly awkward’ moments that keep the audience laughing and engaged. Whether they are tackling the rise of AI in ‘Mother Earth’ or exploring social injustice in ‘Think About It,’ this immersive show is one of the shows that engages us to love art in ourselves – whatever happens, because art cannot die. It can only be sustained.
Waiting for a big Hollywood Producer who will come – they believe, and they’ll have then a BIG BREAK, the concept many artists in Hollywood can associate with. They use vision boards to kick off their fortune, and it’s filled with their vision. They used all of their vision board last night. But Mr. Roger never came we believe.
Fun make-up / clownish and colorful costumes. One of the girls has pink hair and the other white. They’re doing an improv song and it’s unrehearsed. This engaging and funny show is only 30 minutes long. They are having lots of fun, and we are enjoying watching them.
The show is at Broadwater BlackBox, 6322 Santa Monica Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90038. The performances are on Friday, June 19 at 11 pm; Thursday, June 25 at 5 pm; Saturday, June 27 at 9:30 pm and Sunday, June 28 at 4:30 pm. The tickets are $20. Suggested for audience age 14 to adult.
