HARRISON HELD’S SceneAround Town

Dear Readers….   I hope you enjoy my latest installment for Discover Hollywood and discover something new…

She’s Pretty in Pink…  Watch for the stunning and very kind Eve Richards in the new thriller A Line of Fire directed by Matt Shapira from Sony Pictures…. The film stars David A.R. White, Cuba Gooding Jr and Jason Patric.

Soap Star Kate Linder reports that her art event featuring art by Molly Wolveck to benefit ALS research went very well.  “It was extremely successful and will now become an annual event raising money for The ALS Network.  Not only will it help people and families dealing with ALS, but my Mother Molly Wolveck’s legacy as an Artist will live on”.     The event was held at 9176 Sunset Galleries.  Molly Wolveck was a sweet, talented, and kind lady who is missed.

Also on Sunset Boulevard…  the hot grand opening of the beautiful La Nena Cantina where guests dined on delicious Latin food, drank thirst quenching drinks, and enjoyed uplifting Mariachi music.  Nearby at the iconic Hollywood Bowl legendary recording star Cyndi Lauper headlined her final farewell tour with many surprise special guests including Joni Mitchell, John Legend, SZA, Trombone Shorty, Jake Wesley Rogers and…   Cher!   The two legendary divas concluded the show with “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and fireworks.

The beautiful and talented singer Christena Rich (pictured with Brandy LaPlante) debuted her album “Jimmy’s” at the Catalina Bar & Grill…  She was accompanied by Grammy winner Laurence Juber on guitar, Michael Seaman – piano, Zac Mattews – bass and Christopher Allis – drums.   Christena is married to Lee Newman, the grandson of legendary songwriter Jimmy McHugh…  his other grandfather was legendary Eddie Canter!   The record release party was held on her birthday and was a great evening enjoyed by all!   Christena also paid tribute to the late great record producer Richard Perry singing his song Nobody Does It Better.  Audience members sang along to the McHugh song To Love Somebody which closed the show.

Meanwhile on the westside the renown Kat Kramer’s Films That Change The World presented the premier of Walking Thunder which follows Lysander Christo when he was a child growing up in Africa – the beautiful doc highlights tribal cultures and wildlife through the perspective of the child and his family.  Kat, her mom Karen Sharpe Kramer and super songwriter Diane Warren are seen wearing beautiful custom-made jackets designed by JJ Jean…   I want one!  An aside – A Line of Fire director Matt Shapira is also a renown painter, and his elephant paintings are phenomenal.  He often donates them to charities to help raise funds.   Legendary Hitchcock Star Tippi Hedren had a fun family reunion with her daughter Melanie Griffiths who turned 68 and granddaughters Dakota Johnson and Stella Banderas.

Cinecon 61 at the WGA in Beverly Hills had another very successful year.  It is hosted and produced by the likeable hardworking duo of Stan Taffel and Bryan Cooper.  This year’s Legacy Award winners were the legendary Juliet Mills, Ann-Margret and Mamie Van Doren.  Mamie is seen on the red carpet arriving with the film crew of her new documentary directed by Marc Saltarelli – this is the same team that helmed the acclaimed doc Studio One Forever.   I spoke with the legendary Mamie at length many times after our mutual friend Kathleen Hughes died.  We are heartbroken by her loss.  Mamie and Kathleen were two of the young stars at Universal in the glamorous 50s.  Mamie was very good about checking in on her friend Kathleen by phone.  We spoke about her new book coming out in January and she told me some very shocking never-told captivating stories that Classic Hollywood lovers will definitely want to read about!  Mamie has also been very generous writing many letters about her friend MM that I’ve read at the annual Marilyn Monroe Memorials over the years.   Thank you, Mamie and congratulations on your latest award, documentary and new book at 94!   Very Inspiring!

We send our condolences to another Classic Hollywood Star – Kathy Garver (Family Affair, The Ten Commandments) She lost her beloved husband David Travis of 40 years to cancer recently… We are very sorry for your loss.

Heather Locklear and Michael J. Fox had a happy reunion at Toronto’s Fan Expo.  The 2 Stars fondly reminisced about their time co-starring on Spin City!

Writer/director Susie Singer Carter presents “No Country for Old People” which examines the health care system as she chronicles her mother’s last 6 months in a Los Angeles nursing home.  The 3-part doc Anthem Award Winner debuted recently on Amazon.  Legendary actor/activists Lily Tomin and Jane Fonda give it their praise.  Says Lily “this courageous film challenges us to create a future where no one is forgotten or dehumanized”. Jane adds “it tells stories we need to hear of a corrupt long-term system that unjustly profits while our elders suffer”.    PR Rep Harlan Boll was introduced to Susie Singer Carter by his late great client Valerie Harper wo starred in her film My Mother & The Girl.  Valerie touched the hearts of millions, myself included…  She is missed…

Stay Well, Stay Safe….   Love HH
