POSTER CHILD: How Charlie’s Angels Kicked My Ass Out of The Closet

With a great deal of humor, humanity and a lot of heart David Pavao (writer/actor) tells his story of an emotional roller coaster he experienced growing up and how he embraced who he really is with love and passion. The posters of beautiful Charlie’s Angels played a huge part in his gaining self-confidence and helped him to love himself. Those girls were his angels, sisters and confidants. They watched over him and built his strength. How beautiful!
The show opens with having the poster of TV show Charlie’s Angels projected on screen with the popular music and David would play by mimicking them. His room was covered with posters– Farrah Fawcett in a Coral swimsuit, Jaclyn Smith, and Kate Jackson in white bikinis. Sexy and gorgeous as they were, they would come to his dreams relating the subliminal messages. He was always fascinated with female leads and their exotic looks. But David Cassidy’s good looks weren’t missed either.
The show is touching, hilarious and moving with great characterizations of his dad, his mom, and his muses. While he loved playing with dolls and playing dress up, his brother was any dad ‘s dream boy, opposite of him. Mom was very protective of her sensitive little boy who was bullied a lot. God gifted him with daily motion sickness, allergies and much more … At one point he tried to have a girlfriend, but it didn’t work out, and the super challenging journey continues … full of surprises.
Going through something very personal is a challenge indeed. David is likable, funny, charming, and courageous with full commitment to his characters and his material. I looked around, and everyone was glued to the stage. His raw vulnerability touched everyone in that theatre, which was totally packed. The diverse audience was laughing out loud and had teary eyes relating and enjoying the story. If the opportunity presents itself again, I would wholeheartedly recommend you see this production.
Produced by Soaring Solo Studios, where talented Heather Dowling is a part of, she became David’s solo coach and helped him develop some of his character poses and character transitions. The script is developed with and directed by our famous Jessica Lynn Johnson. The stage manager is Devin Harris, Q-lab technician is Nick Boyer, the colorful and beautiful show poster and specialty graphics/videos were created by Scott Boyer, voice over services is Kenny Johnson and choreographer is Pamela Najera – Michael. The show has four performances at the Zephyr Theatre, 7456 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90046.
