Written and performed by Brian Leonard, and directed by Ken Sonkin, ‘Therapist Zero’ reflects on some dark ‘clouds’ from his childhood, fertility challenges, his daughter Emily’s mental issues and the child therapist – who was in reality a zero of a therapist.
They wanted to be parents more than anything, but they had one percent chance of succeeding. It took many tries to make it happen. Emily – a miracle baby, questions everything she sees. Intellectual curiosity had to be addressed by early child therapist, a mental health professional. Parenting is not only about reading stories.
Leonard was the 5th child, out of six and he considers himself – a mistake. At home, he was invisible when he was a kid. Looking at the world with very simple eyes, the question arises, ‘How his mother and father went away in the middle of the night with all his siblings except for taking him?’ He had to leave to take himself out of equation. With a gorgeous voice Leonard tells the story with simplicity and lots of emotions.
This is a powerful show worth experiencing!
