THE FEEL GOOD STORY AMERICA NEEDS RIGHT NOW

Reviewed by Amalisha HuEck

America wants to hear good stories. When the most popular television news magazine reunited six brave Americans for a 60-minute interview, to tell the world about their escape from the hands of the most vicious Sudanese terrorist group, the world is on its toes to hear the good story. They are expecting it, but what will the outcome be?

After one year of escape, Brad Fowler (Casey Alcoser) wrote a book called ‘Run to Daylight’ and told the story which was not quite embraced by all the hostages. Therefore, a heroic escape told by Fowler gets quite messy when everyone wants changes to their stories. By not wanting to change anything, and the truth just wants to be heard, things get out of hand.

Majorie Dombrowski (Clara Rodriguez), complained about not being mentioned a 20-pound weight loss while in captivity and revealed that sometimes civilized people have to do uncivilized things. Her love for singing seems to be a big help to her survival under all the challenging circumstances. The play between Rodriguez and her husband John Combs as Mitch Dombrowski is charming and fun.

The characters created by all the actors are a delight to watch. Wealthy and super attractive Jenna Rubin (Bella Balsamo) and her habitual consumption of red licorice reveals her obsessive personality.  Samantha Gregory as Felicity Davenport is strong in her choices, and all the actors Steve Nevil as Gerald Potts, Paul Gunning as Bill Chandler, Jill Remez as Leslie Finch and Danielle Weeks as Taylor Griffin, the TV executives with their ego and power, are embracing the characters’ individualities. They all shine with their body language, strong sense of who they are and emotional expressions.

The World Premiere of a new comedy produced by Theatre West and Little Jack Productions, The Feel Good Story America Needs Right Now, set in a suite in The Four Seasons hotel in New York City, is strongly recommended.

Directed by Charlie Mount this new comedy marks the third collaboration with TV writer and producer Mark Wilding as a playwright. Garry Kluger produces it.
