Fringe Festival: DOOM GIRLS – The Broadwater BlackBox

DOOM GIRLS – The Broadwater BlackBox

Three extraterrestrial secret agents – who are also bandmates – are called back into action to track down a dangerous fugitive hiding on the hellish planet known as Earth. Even worse, he is disguised as … a podcast bro! It’s up to these secret agent/rockstar beings to save the universe … again!

Presented by KADM Productions this fifty-five‑minute sci‑fi musical comedy is original and goes well with what is going on today with the current news. Produced and directed by Matt Morillo ‘DOOM GIRLS’ is written by Jenni Chiaramonte, who is also an associate producer. She is known to us from appearance earlier this year in Sweet Air and got great reviews.

After traveling through the galaxies, they crashed into an Earth plane, where the fugitive might be, and found it extraordinary – beautiful. As aliens discover an Earth plane, they quickly figure out how everything is running here. For those girls it is silly that men run the Earth Plane. They are commenting that those humans will ruin it somehow. Also, social media and human technology are not to be trusted, because it will alter their perspective. But life is a gift and they don’t want to waste it. So, they do what they love – they sing with the guitars. It was a little hard to hear the singers over the first song due to the audio mix, but the other two were OK. As they are stuck here on earth, they are thinking about staying on earth and helping humans.

The exciting cast includes Jenni Chiaramonte, Cynthia Dane, Tamika Katon-Donegal, Nina Eancel, Alex Sarno and Tim Will. Special appearance by Katie Oliver as Eitak Revilo. Voice over is done by Joe Coldize. Original music is by Jenni Chiaramonte, Mike Marceante, Michael Chiaramonte. Rebecca Schoenberg is stage manager, and Philip Sokoloff is PR.

The songs performed are ‘Stars Are Free,’ ‘The Planet is Waiting,’ ‘Doom Girls Theme.’ As the girls are having fun, they are also dressed in fun clothing. Glitter is sprinkled everywhere on them; they even wear glittery clothing and glittery shoes. This is a great concept filled with tremendous possibilities. Jenni built a fun, playful world that touches on real issues we humans face and expresses the seriousness of our relationship to the planet. Fun idea, and it is performed with a special mix of sincerity, humor, and down-to-earth charm. I think we will be seeing many more productions with such a topic.

The show is running at the Broadwater BlackBox Theatre, 6322 Santa Monica Blvd. Hollywood, CA 90038. The performances are Thursday, June 11 at 5 pm; Sunday, June 14 at 6 pm; Sunday, June 21 at 8 pm; and Saturday, June 27 at 10:30 pm. Admission is $20.
